About Us
At NEVBRC we provide a whole host of services and maintain a full service business center. We can help you with your business structure, planning, marketing, employees, taxes, funding strategies, and a whole host of other business lifecycle topics. Our most valuable resource is our knowledge and our experience. Everyone at NEVBRC is an entrepreneur and has started their own business at one time or another.
For the most part, there are no charges for any of our services. Depending on existing grant resources, clients may be required to purchase their text for a particular class (in which case you will purchase directly from the vendor and NEVBRC receives no incentive or rebate), or if we host a trade show type event, the client will be responsible for rental expenses associated with their companies booth space and any travel, lodging, shipping, or meals for their group.
What should you expect from us? Straight forward and honest advice, at NEVBRC we not cheerleaders and were not naysayers, were seasoned business owners with experience in a variety of industries, and have worked with entrepreneurs just like you for many years.
Our main training center is located in Lawrence, Massachusetts, one of the poorest cities in the United States, and is the poorest in Massachusetts. Lawrence has a population of just under 70,000 people, 72 percent of whom are Hispanic. An amazing 28 percent of the people of Lawrence live below the poverty line. Of children under age 18 in Lawrence, 38 percent live in households below the poverty line, as do 22 percent of people age 65 and over. The expansion and development of local small business and microenterprises is the most cost effective and efficient means of strengthening economic stability of communities like Lawrence and its residents.
NEVBRC is located in one of the massive mill buildings lining the Merrimack River. The striking clock and bell towers, and the breath-taking Great Stone Dam are all a tribute to Lawrence’s rich industrial heritage. Once a thriving industrial center, Lawrence now faces significant economic challenges in keeping pace with the rest of its Massachusetts neighbors.
According to the United States Census Bureau’s 2005 American Community Survey report (released in August 2006):
NEVBRC trains clients in key skills necessary to start businesses, and provides tools for entrepreneurs already in business to improve or rehabilitate their business.
The Business Center offers state-of-the-art business courses and training programs, such as the Kauffman Foundations FastTrac, New Venture, and Home Based Business curriculum as well as workshops, seminars, and mentoring by area business professionals. These services include but are not limited to technology workshops, financial literacy, and marketing research, accessing capital, surveys and federal procurement/government contracting.
NEVBRC is fully internet accessible both on premises and through remote access. In addition to fully loaded business computer terminals, NEVBRC offers a robust business library, a self-paced self-improvement lab, as well as a professional pod cast recording studio.
Our text, recorded audio and video programs, and training
programs represent both nationally recognized business experts like Brian Tracy, Zig Ziglar, Anthony Robbins, and Les Brown, as well as published works from clients who are successful authors and have donated resources to the business center for the purpose of giving back.
A small sampling of out titles include; business development, sales, resume writing,
communication skills development, interpersonal and relationship skills, basic and advance computer skills training, business financial management, creative problem solving, memory and top performance building, professional writing, negotiating skills, personnel management and counseling, and much more.
Senior executive staff at NEVBRC constantly remain current regarding statistical micro-entrepreneurial trends as well as the social and economic barriers these entrepreneurs face while starting or growing small businesses.
Members of NEVBRC executive staff are published business experts, are frequently called as expert witnesses regarding small business issues at the state legislative level, and have testified numerous times for the United States House and Senate Committees on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
